What is the Leadership Summer School?

Leadership Summer School (LSS) is a one week high quality training event organised as a joint project of international youth organisations. The LSS aims to gather about 80 motivated youth participants from different kind of student associations, youth workers and from all over Europe. The objective of the training week is the exchange of knowledge and best practices between participants and the organisations involved. Furthermore, after completing the Leadership Summer School, participants will have attained and practised various leadership skills.

 

 Why LSS?

The Leadership Summer School project was born to fulfill a perceived need of improving the training culture and quality across youth associations, by sharing best practices. Despite the fact that IFISO member organizations come from various backgrounds and disciplines, they often share similar scopes to improve overlaps, knowledge transfer, continuity and commu­nication. This interdisciplinary event became a training platform for active young volunteers providing trainings open to all IFISO member organizations.

 Concept of the Project

During the days of the event, the participants will enjoy a wide variety of working forms of peer education. Small working groups, case studies, simulation, debates, discussions and other practical working forms will help the participants to improve their skills in different aspects of leadership. This event is designed to be a very practical and personal non-formal learning experience that aims at fostering collaboration, as well as achieving a multiplier effect within the associations involved.

The evening programme will contain informal networking opportunities between participants and also address the role of art and culture in context of leadership and academic success.

Introduction of IFISO

The Informal Forum of International Student Organizations (IFISO) is a non-political and nonprofit forum for various student-run organizations. Currently it consists of 30 studentorganizations, covering more than two million students all together. Annual IFISO meetings are normally held twice a year, hosted by local committees of member organizations. During these meetings most important topics of interest are discussed and often new events being planned: we are proud to say that Leadership Summer School 2009 is a joint project in which over 15 member organizations have engaged themselves in.
